Judicial probe sought into police action in Kozhikode

Kozhikode:Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) state president M Swaraj today demanded that a judicial probe must be conducted into the incident in which police fired in the air after a protest march by SFI to the Kozhikode Govt. engineering college turned violent today.
Speaking to the mediapersons here on Monday, Swaraj added that the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Radhakrishna Pillai who fired four rounds of shots at the activists must be removed from post.

Police said they fired four rounds in the air as the protesters continued to pelt stones even after lathicharge and teargas. Eleven students, including SFI state Secretary P Biju, and ten police personnel were injured in stone pelting and police lathicharge and had been admitted to Medical College Hospital, they said.
The SFI activists were protesting the admission of a student in the Government Engineering College here alleging that it was done in violation of rules. The situation turned violent after the protesters learnt that the student whose admission they were protesting was inside the college. They allegedly pelted stones at the police and broke the window glass panes of the college building
