Cinema Company targets Prithviraj

Cinema Company Targets Prithviraj
Last week’s release Cinema Company, directed by Mamas, has a character modeled on Prithviraj.
The character is affectionately called ‘Raju’, which happens to be Prithviraj’s popular name as well. Played by a new actor, who has a striking resemblance with the young hero, the character in the film does everything to remind the real life star.
In fact, Prithviraj has been a target earlier as well, especially in the Internet, where videos and comments have been posted against him aplenty.
There have been mentions about stars in other films as well, Cinema Company seems to have targeted the hero, in a rather ‘harsh’ way.

MAJOR POWER FAILURE IN NORTH INDIA - THE TIMES OF INDIA REPORT

There has been a major power failure in north India since late Sunday night affecting at least six states.

The states affected include Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, UP, Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan.

"Yes there are problems with Northern Grid, we are trying to restore it", said SK Soonee, CEO of Power System Operating Co (PSOC).

PSOC manages the Northern Power Grid. Officials sources said while the exact reasons for the grid failure are being ascertained , over drawl of power by states could have led to the problem.

The restoration of the grid may take a few more hours even as the engineers are trying to restore it since early morning.

Power supply in some pockets is being restored and the first priority is for public services like hospitals and transport.

"We are hoping to restore the grid in the next one or two hours. We are giving essential loads for services like Railways, Metro and Hospitals," chairman and managing director of Power Grid Corporation AM Nayak said.

Saina Nehwal sails into pre-quarterfinals of London Olympics

India's ace shuttler Saina Nehwal cruised into the knockout stage of the women's singles competition after notching up a comfortable straight-game win over Belgium'sLianne Tan in a group stage match on Monday.

The world number five Indian did not need to exert herself and was in complete control of the match as she saw off the Belgium girl 21-4, 21-14 in just 24 minutes at the Wembley arena.

The fourth seed Indian is likely to take on Chinese-born Yao Jie of The Netherlands, ranked 20th in the world, in the knockout stage.

The 22-year-old Indian was in her dominating best as she judged the shuttle well and had better idea of the court. She anticipated the moves of her opponent very easily and took just nine minutes to wrap up the first game in her favour.

Gagan Narang qualifies for 10m air rifle finals in the Olympics

Proud moment
Gagan Narang had everything in shooting to his name barring an Olympic medal. His disappointment of missing out at Beijing was always apparent in his interviews. But, at the London Games, Narang got his much awaited and much cherished Olympic medal. A bronze medal to his name and he has probably got everything in shooting now.

As the Indian fans went in a state of shock seeing 2008 Beijing Olympics gold medalist Abhinav Bindra get knocked out in the qualifying round, Narang had made it to the finals with an impressive qualifying score. Bindra who made the entire country proud by winning the first ever gold medal in the individual category in 2008 couldn’t defend his title but Narang was still in the reckoning.

India’s only individual Olympic gold medallist Bindra failed to qualify as he shot 594 to finish 16th out of 47 contestants.

There was a ray of hope as Narang lived up to the expectations in the qualifying round. As Indian athletes failed one after another at the London Games 2012, Gagan Narang rose to the occasion as he shot bronze in the 10m Air Rifle event.

The Hyderabad based marksman scored 598 points which got him the third spot, just a point behind the number one and two qualifiers – World No. 1 Niccolo Campriani of Italy and Romania`s Moldoveanu Alin George who both came up with an Olympic-record equalling 599.

Narang finished with a 10.3 and then a 10.7 to snatch a bronze medal away from China`s Wang Tao. It was a relief for the man who had narrowly missed a medal at the Beijing Games. As the crowd cheered for Abhinav Bindra at the Beijing Games, Narang stood in utter disappointment having missed the podium by the margin of one point.

This time he made sure that he didn’t go through a similar experience. He came up with a formidable performance and defeated the best in the business to end India’s drought at 2012 Olympics.

Bollywood star Sherlyn Chopra poses naked for Playboy

sherlyn-chopra-playboy-epathram
Bollywood actress Sherlyn Chopra posed naked for an upcoming issue of Playboy. That makes her the subject of Playboy's first nude photo shoot featuring a woman from India.
Hugh Hefner was not the brains behind the decision to photograph a woman from India for the first time; it was actually Sherlyn Chopra herself who came up with the idea. The 28-year-old actress wrote a letter to Playboy offering to pose nude, and representatives from the magazine were quick to accept her offer.
According to the Huffington Post, "A press conference earlier this week heralded the addition of a 'Bollywood goddess' to the pantheon of beauties who've appeared on the pages of Hugh Hefner's magazine."
Nude photos of Sherlyn Chopra will appear in the November issue of Playboy, but not in her home country of India. Playboy is banned there. Chopra is already facing criticism for the racy photos, and they haven't even been released yet. However, she is looking upon her unique distinction as the first woman from India to pose naked for Playboy as an achievement. She told the BBC, I have become the first Indian to pose naked for Playboy and nobody can take away that achievement from me," as quoted by the Inquisitor.
It remains to be seen whether Sherlyn Chopra's appearance in Playboy will inspire fellow Bollywood actresses Kajal Aggarwal and Aishwarya Rai to follow suit and pose nude, but it seems unlikely.

IndiGo owner entering into retail at Metro stations, highways

InterGlobe, which owns budget carrier IndiGo, is now making a foray intoretailing at Metro stations and on highways. Its subsidiary InterGlobe Retail has started opening shops at Delhi Metro stations with an investment of Rs 20-22 crore, and toll highways are next on the list. Carrying the US chain of stores under brand name 'Hudson News and Cafe', these stores would be offering travel essentials like food items and magazines.

InterGlobe had tied up with Swiss firm Dufry (which owns the brand name Hudson) to bid for duty free shops at Indian airports. While it has so far not opened any duty free shop and will bid for the new Mumbai airport, the group decided to use this franchise at Delhi Metro Rail Corp (DMRC) and highways. Moreover, airport duty free area bidding is a long-term affair and the InterGlobe-Dufry combine did not want to wait for years to make a start in India.

London Olympics: India clueless about mystery woman at march past

london olympics 2012 indian team mystry woman
The presence of an unidentified lady beside flagbearer Sushil Kumar in the Indian contingent during the opening ceremony of the Olympics has prompted the country's miffed officials to take up the issue with the Games organisers.

A young lady in red shirt and blue trouser was seen leading the Indian contingent in the march past alongside Beijing Games bronze-medal winner Sushil Kumar and her unwanted presence has not gone down well with the Indians who had no clue as to who she was.

Acting chef de mission of the Indian contingent Brig P K Muralidharan Raja is understandably agitated that a person who was not part of the delegation was allowed to accompany the team and hog the limelight in the process.

"She had no business to walk in with the Indian contingent and we are taking up the issue with the organisers. We don't know who she is and why she was allowed to walk in. It is a shame that she was with the athletes in the march past", Raja told PTI here.

"We were initially told that she would accompany the contingent till the track but she went on to take the entire lap. There was another man also but he stayed back and did not enter the stadium," Raja added.

London: From Boyle’s Isles of Wonder, a green and pleasant land, John Milton’s capital city of Hell (Pandemonium) to James Bond and Mr. Bean's Chariots of Fire cameo, London lived up to the expectation of presenting a swanky opening ceremony for the XXX Olympiad. But, with the final lighting of the Olympic cauldron, London took the ceremony to a different height to a differnt dimension - The cauldron consisting of 204 petals, one for each competing nation, were lit by seven young athletes chosen by British Olympic champions and to end it all, Paul McCartney's Hey Jude -- well done London, well done Danny Boyle.

The next generation of Olympians are lighting the Olympic Cauldron. The cauldron consists of 204 petals, one for each competing nation or territory, which were lit by seven young athletes chosen by British Olympic champions.

The seven youngsters meet and are hugged by their mentors and now they make their way into the centre of the stadium and there is the cauldron.

Sir Steve Redgrave passes the flame to young rower. Each Torchbearer and Ambassador nominated a talented young athlete to carry the Flame.

It is a love stroy depicted through music from each decade.

Some funky groovy beats in now as Mum and Dad stay at home and watch TV, teenage son plays video games but the teenage girl – June – is getting ready to go out dancing. Music from 60s. 70s and 90s as Frankie chases June.

From offical site of London Olympics, "Frankie and June say...

The story starts in an ordinary house – the kind of house in which most British people live. Our fictional family – played by non-professional volunteers, chosen from among our volunteers – is ready for Saturday night".

And there is Lord Voldemort

Mr. Bean's appearance was a surprise but full of laughter as usual.

You better believe it guys, it is MR.BEAN at the Olympic stadium. The London Symphony Orchestra are performing the theme from the film most associated with the Olympics; Chariots of Fire with a very familiar face joining them on keyboard, Rowan Atkinson as Mr, Bean and that is classic English humour on display.

Thirteen specified government services come under the ambit of the new law.
These are issue of certificates of birth and death; denomination of caste, income and domicile; electricity connection to households and commercial shops; domestic water connections and issue of ration cards.
The other services are receipts to complaints filed with the police; issue of a copy of the First Information Report; police intervention in grievous crimes; time-bound verification of passport and employment status; issue of copy of post-mortem report and releasing of vehicles under custody.
The law guarantees delivery of specified services within a stipulated time period and if this does not happen, a penalty will be imposed on the official concerned.
People can now avail these services at offices of concerned government departments, local self-government institutions besides public sector undertakings.

India to open centre in Dubai to enrol thousands of Indian expats in pension scheme
Abu Dhabi: The Government of India will soon open a centre in Dubai to enrol thousands of Indian expatriate workers in its ambitious Pension and Life Insurance Fund (PLIF).
The voluntary scheme offering three important benefits will help the skilled and unskilled workers to save money for their old age, to have financial means when they go back home and a life insurance cover for Rupee 100,000 (Dh6,500) during their work abroad.
About 65 per cent of more than two million Indians in the UAE are blue collar workers and they will get an early opportunity to enrol in the scheme.

Kerala State Electricity Board for hike in power tariff

The high-powered committee of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has decided to urge the State Electricity Regulatory Commission to allow realisation of higher power tariff from domestic consumers, who consume more than 150 units a month.
The committee has also recommended imposing a 30 per cent power cut on industrial and commercial consumers. The order of the regulatory commission in an earlier recommendation for tariff hike is likely to come out soon. The commission is mulling a 30 per cent hike along with fixed charge from all consumers to reduce KSEB’s revenue deficit.

With the availability of water in the state’s hydel projects declining on account of poor monsoon, KSEB feels it may have to impose power cuts and load shedding to tide over the crisis.

According to state power minister Aryadan Muhamed, the government would convene an all-party meeting to discuss the power crisis in the state. According to board, the dams under it has so far received only 48 per cent of the projected inflow of water this monsoon.
This after 56 days of the current monsoon season.

Smart City Phase-I to be complete in 18 months

The first phase of Kerala’s mega IT infrastructure project, Smart City in Kochi, will be completed in 18 months, said chief minister Oommen Chandy.
Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, he said that the implementation of the project will not be delayed and it will be commissioned within the time schedule fixed earlier with the state government and TECOM of Dubai, the overseas partner in the project. There are some minor issues with the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) and this will be solved amicably. The project will not be delayed due to this, he said.

GoM approves compensation package from Boeing

AI Express neglecting Kerala: Chandy
A Group of Ministers (GoM) on Wednesday approved a compensation package sought by Air India from US aircraft maker Boeing for a four-year delay in delivery of Boeing 787 Dreamliner planes.
"The GoM considered it and now we will send it to the CCEA (Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs). ... It will be taken up whenever the next CCEA meeting is held," Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh told reporters after a meeting of the GoM headed by Home Minister P. Chidambaram.
A meeting of the CCEA is likely to be held on Thursday.
The Minister refused to reply to queries on the amount of compensation to be paid by Boeing on grounds of confidentiality of the agreement between the aircraft manufacturer and the national carrier.
"Air India had negotiated a compensation package with Boeing because the planes were to be delivered in 2008, that is about four years delay."
"The earlier agreement was for a delay of six months and certain amount was agreed upon. That has been enhanced now," Singh said.
The GoM is understood to have looked at the terms of compensation and the amount to be paid by Boeing as per the latest agreement with Air India that was approved by its Board on May 28.
Deposing before a parliamentary committee, then AI CMD Arvind Jadhav had said, "We have slapped a compensation claim of USD 710 million. Obviously, they have confirmed USD 145 million they will pay as compensation for the delay..."

Malayalam Actress Shobana's boyfriend blasted for betraying wife

At one time, she starred in super hits like 'Dalapathy,' 'Enakkul Oruvan,' 'Siva' and 'Idhu Namma Aalu' and was a dream girl to millions. She then opted out of the film field to concentrate totally in dance.

She still remains single and no amount of prompting by well-wishers and family to tie the knot has had any effect. Now there are rumours that she's in love with an industrialist named Rahul Nehra from Uttar Pradesh. He's already a married and divorced man.

Day before yesterday, she and Rahul Nehra have gone for a film at Inox. Mukund Kumar who is related to Rahul's first wife, saw them together and blasted Rahul. Being humiliated in public was too much and Rahul tried to slap him. Shobana stopped Rahul and took him away.

After Mammootty's son, Mohanlal, Jayaram's kids try their luck

After Mamootty's son, Dulquar Salman established himself as an actor with his film Second Show andUsthad Hotel, many star kids are trying to make a place for themselves in Mollywood.
It is common in Bollywood for star kids to follow the footsteps of their star parents and enter the big bad world of B'town. But, not many star children follow their parents career routes in Malayalam cinema. However, all that will change soon as Mohan Lal's son Pranav and Jayaram's son Kalidasan are getting ready for their Mollywood entry.
While Kalidasan has won awards for his heart rendering performance in Ente Veedu Appundeyumand Kochu Kochu Santhoshangal, Pranav too has won the best child artist state award for his performance in Punarjani. He also acted in Mohan Lal's Onnaman and Sagar alias Jacky.
A few months ago, Pranav was not very keen on making films as his career. But, if reports are to be believed, he too might plunge into films like Dulquar Salman. Now, it remains to be seen if all these star kids will create a niche for themselves or not!
