Will anyone be able to forget Akkosetto and Unnikuttan? We know your reply. Yes, that was the magic Mohanlal and Siddhartha (the boy who played Rimpoche) did create in the 1992 film Yodha.
Made way back under the direction of Sangeeth Sivan with Mohanlal and Jagathy Sreekumar in pivotal roles, the film shot in the picturesque locations of Nepal is now all ready for a second innings. Santhosh Sivan who has been of late focussing on Bollywood is planning for a comeback to the Malayalam film industry through this sequel and so plans are being made to make a sequel at the earliest.
Interlacing myth and reality the film was novel in many ways.
Probing into the lives of the Lamas the film was centered on a young monk (played by Siddhartha). The monk was about to be crowned the ‘Rimpoche’ of the monastery when he gets kidnapped by a gang of black magicians led by an unnamed character (played by Puneet Issar). It is revealed that the leader of the black magicians wishes to make a human sacrifice of the Rimpoche in order to attain invincibility.
None could forget the successful combnation of Mohanlal as Ashokan and the king of Comedy of Malayalam cinema, ace actor Jagathy Sreekumar’s role of Appukuttan in the film. The music of Yodha was composed by music maestro A R Rahman. According to reports, Mohanlal has already allocated the dates for this movie. Harris Jayraj will be the music composer for the sequel and Santhosh Sivan would wield the camera.
As per the story part, the director is planning to kick off the sequel from where the prequel had ended. Puneet Issar, who had essayed the villain's roles, will be seen in the sequel also. This big budgest movie is expected to rope in Lakshmi Rai as the heroine as against Urvashi and Madhubala who had played the heroines in Yodha.
So let us wait for the rocking Jagathy-Mohanlal team and lets see whether they will be able to able to rekindle the spark with Yodha 2.
