Actress Urvashi will file a defamation case against her ex-husband and actor Manoj. K. Jayan for his allegations that she is an alcoholic.
Talking to media persons here on Saturday, the actress alleged that what happened in the family court on Friday was a plot cooked up by Manoj.
“I recently underwent a surgery and is under medication. I am taking strong steroids and was in a very pale condition yesterday which made an impression that I was inebriated,” Urvashi told mediapersons.
On a question, the actress said that filing the suit and other future plans would be as per her counsel’s directions.
“I am going on with the case only because my daughter Kunjatta wants to be with me. However, I would like to have an early disposal of the case without creating much emotional problem to my daughter,” she added.
Earlier in the day, Urvashi spent one hour with Kunjatta, in a special room in the family court.
The legal tussle over the custody of Kunjatta, the only daughter of separated actors Manoj K. Jayan and Urvashi, encountered a new twist with the 12-year-old refusing to go with her mother.
Kunjatta on Friday submitted before the Ernakulam Family court that she is scared of her mother as the latter gets drunk.
Family court judge N. Leleamani pondered over this and asked Manoj K. Jayan to take her with him and produce her again on Saturday.
Manoj K Jayan, pursuant to an High Court order, had brought Kunjatta before the family court on Friday to hand over custody of the child to Urvashi.
The high court had ordered that Urvashi should be given custody of Kunjatta on Fridays and Saturdays from 11 am to 4 pm.
Manoj K. Jayan alleged that Urvashi was under the influence of alcohol most of the time. He brought this to the notice of the court through his counsel Sangeetha Lakshmana.
An infuriated Urvashi stormed out of the chamber and left the court premises after the hearing.
Meanwhile, Urvashi's counsel denied the allegation and maintained that the actor’s body was weak. She was willing to undergo a medical examination to prove that she was not an alcoholic.
“A report will be produced before the court if needed,” counsel said.
Finally, Manoj K. Jayan informed that he will not bring the kid again on Saturday.
