Truth About the March 8 Internet Doomsday

While it's true some users may lose their Internet access next month, it's not the FBI's fault
Heard the one about the FBI shutting down the Internet next month?
Like many memes before it, this dire warning is floating around blogs and sites. It even names a date: March 8 as the day the FBI might "shut down the Internet." But relax, that's not really the case.
While yes, an untold number of people may lose their Internet connection in less than three weeks, if they do they only have nefarious web criminals to blame and certainly not the FBI.
If people end up in the dark on March 8 it's because they're still infected with the malware the FBI started warning people about last November when it shut down a long-standing Estonian Web traffic hijacking operation that controlled people's computers using a family of DNSChanger viruses. The malware works by replacing the DNS (Domain Name System) servers defined on a victim's computer with fraudulent servers operated by the criminals. As a result, visitors are unknowingly redirected to websites that distributed fraudulent software or displayed ads that put money into the bad guys' pockets.

Piravom poll, Piravom bypoll Results Live Udf/Ldf/Bjp

The candidates of the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) and CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) today filed their nomination papers for the crucial March 17 Piravom bypoll. Anoop Jacob of the Kerala Congress, a constituent of the UDF and the front's candidate in Piravom, visited the grave of his father, T M Jacob, before filing the nomination papers. It was T M Jacob's death in October last, when he was food minister in the Oommen Chandy cabinet, that necessitated the bypoll. The LDF's candidate in the constituency is M J Jacob, who had lost in the 2011 Assembly polls by a close margin of 157 votes. Both the candidates filed their nominations before the Pambakkuda Block Development officer. The BJP has put up K R Rajagopal as their candidate. The bypoll will be the first major trial for the Congress ministry after it rode to power with a wafer-thin margin of 72 seats in the 140-member house in May last year. Jacob's death in October had reduced the elected strengh of the UDF in the assembly to 71, including the Speaker, against 68 seats held by the CPI(M)-led LDF opposition

Govt approves change in names of 25 towns (in Kerala 17 towns)

Shakespeare may have said what's in the name but for the Home Ministry it is a matter of sentiments of millions as it had approved renaming of 25 towns across the country during the last decade.

In Kerala, the highest number of 17 towns were renamed, followed by Punjab, where the Centre approved the change of names in four towns, besides two in Odisha.

Though the Home Ministry approved the change of names in two towns in Madhya Pradesh, it rejected the proposal of renaming capital Bhopal as Bhojpal.

Punjab's Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar is now known as Ajitgarh while Sunam town is Sunam Udham Singh Wala. The name of Nawanshahar has been changed to Shahid Bhagat Singh Nagar and Muktsar town is now known as Sri Muktsar Sahib.

Phulbani in Odisha is now called Baudh Kaudhamal while the name of Sonapur has been changed to Subarnapur.

The rechristened towns in Kerala are Thrissur (from Trichur), Kollam (Quilon), Alappuzha (Alleppey), Palakkad (Palghat), Kannur (Connanore), Thalassery (Tellicherry), Vadakara (Badagare), Paravur (Parur) and Aluva (Alwaye).

The other name changed towns in Kerala are Devi Kulam (from Devi Colam), Kochi (Cochin), Changanassery (Changanachery ), Chirayinkeezhu (Chirayinkil), Kodungallur (Cranagnore), Mannarkad (Mannarghat), Mananthavady (Mannantoddy) and Sulthan Bathery (Sultan's Battery).

Names of two Madhya Pradesh towns -- Gotegaon and Mhow -- have been changed to Sridham and Ambedkar Nagar respectively.

Now, CPI (M) Wants Its Own TV Channel!

Now, the CPI (M) seems to be bitten by the media bug. The Marxist party leaders want to have their own television channel to propagate their ideology.
At the ongoing 23rd state conference of the CPI (M), several delegates on Friday pitched for launching the party channel. They said it was time the party had its own voice reaching out to the people directly.
They argued that the existing media outlets, both print and electronic media, did not care for the CPI (M) or its agenda. The party’s agitational programmes are not getting proper attention in the news channels, they said.
In Kerala, Kairali TV is widely seen as the voice of CPI (M). Similarly, the party must have a channel in Andhra Pradesh to take its policies and programmes to the people.
Over 750 delegates are participating in the meeting being held at Khammam. The senior Marxist leaders including the general secretary Prakash Karat and Sitaram Yechuri have addressed the gathering.
The meeting took a dim view of the party’s state of affairs in AP where it is fast losing its traditional support base.

Playback singer Markose arrested, released in Saudi

KG Markose - popular Malayalam singer has been arrested in Saudi on Friday, Feb 10. The singer visited the country to attend a musical concert.

After being harassed for more than 24 hours, Markose got bail in the late evening of Saturday. According to sources in Kerala Chief Minister Oomen Chandy's office, Markose was arrested following some distribution of notices with his (Markose's) pictures in Malayalam.

"The reason behind his arrest, as being told to us, is that a notice with Markose's picture in Malayalam was being circulated and this is against the kingdom's laws. What we are given to understand is that the organisers of the musical programme also did not take the required sanction," informed the official from the CM's office.

Stating about the whole incident, the official added, "The incident occured Friday evening at 7.30 p.m when the singer was proceeding to AL-Qatif near Damamm after having performed in the Saudi capital, Riyadh. He was on a visit to stage a programme celebrating India's Republic Day organised by a Kerala group there."

Media quoted Markose when he was in the police station. The singer said, "Right now, I am in a police station in Dammam and they are verifying my papers and so far there has been no arrest. They have found out that I am on a visit visa and am sure that very soon I would be asked to leave the station. The officials are very nice to me and I have no problems here at all. I have been told that this programme did not have the required permission from authorities."

'Agneepath' inspires a murder! 15-Year-Old Boy Stabs His Teacher to Death

Agneepath
Whoever said films are merely entertainment should definitely consider studying this case. On February 9, a 15-year old student stabbed his teacher to death in Chennai and during interrogation has expressed that he was influenced by Bollywood flick 'Agneepath' and by Hrithik's on screen character who avenges his father's death!

Reportedly a spoilt child, he was often scolded by his tutor Maheshwari for his poor performance in exams. Apparently influenced by the violence in 'Agneepath' the boy rushed to a classroom where Maheshwari was waiting for her students to assemble, slit her throat, apart from stabbing her in the chest and abdomen!

The incident took place in St Mary's Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School in Chennai, and Maheshwari who was rushed to the hospital passed away on the way. What's even more shocking is that the child did not even attempt to flee from the event!  He is currently in the custody of city police.

'Agneepath' was given a UA certificate and in fact the posters read: This film is certified UA, we advise parental guidance due to violence in the film'. UA certificate means parental guidance for children below 12 years of age and it may be mentioned we're discussing a 15 year old here. However, it will be fair if parents decide whether their child can be exposed to such violence based on the kid's mindset even if they are more than 12 years of age...

Njanum Ente Familyum – Jayaram New Film-Movie Review

Njanum Ente Familyum, directed by KK Rajeev is his first directorial debut. Though Rajeev has made many good serials, it is the first time that he is venturing into directing films and that lack of experience shows!

Njanum Ente Familyum, scripted by Cherian Kalpakavady is extremely predictable. Though the film tries to hold our attention in the first half, director KK Rajeev loses complete dimension in the second half and the film becomes a drag. It becomes difficult to sit through the entire movie.

Njanum Ente Familyum bears a lot of resemblance to the Hindi film Dil Ek Mandir, directed by CV Sridhar and released in 1963. The film was remade in Malayalam as Hridayam Oru Kshethram (1976) starring Madhu, Sri Vidya and Raghavan.

Visuals by Vaidy S Pillai and music by MG Sreekumar is good.

Last Supper painting: CPM must apologise, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy

പാര്‍ട്ടി പോസ്റ്ററില്‍ ക്രിസ്തുവിനെ ഒബാമയാക്കി

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today opined that the Communist Party of India (Marxist) CPM had picturised the “Last Supper” painting in a demeaning manner.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has strongly condemned the Communist Party of India ( Marxist ) for having hurt the religious sentiments of a large section of people.
His comments came in the wake of a snowballing controversy that involved posters of ‘The Last Supper’, in which the faces of Jesus Christ and his 12 disciples have been morphed and replaced with those of various political leaders including United States President Barack Obama, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, and Mr. Chandy himself among others. The latest development has come close on the heels of harsh criticism towards the CPI (M) from various quarters for having featured Jesus Christ in one of its campaigns.
Speaking to media persons here on Sunday, Mr. Chandy accused the party of having ‘crossed the limits’ by their actions. “The religious sentiments should always be respected and never should any revered figures be used for political gains. By replacing the faces with those of the party’s political rivals, it has committed an act of blatant blasphemy,” he said.
He added that “the party is attempting to realise the Marxist ideology of attracting the public through vociferous campaigns. However, the party would not find success in achieving its goals, instead, their actions would only backfire.”
Mr. Chandy also expressed optimism that the party would apologise for their actions. “A political party must never hesitate from correcting its wrong decisions,” he said.
Later, at a press conference, Finance Minister K.M. Mani echoed the views of the Chief Minister in the issue and demanded that the CPI (M) rendered a sincere apology to those whose sentiments have been hurt.
He pointed out that attempts are being made to liken the teachings of Christianity with the Communist ideology. “This is a disgusting move that is being adopted by the party. It is wrong to politicise the teachings of the founders of any religion. Moreover, while the ideology of the party revolves around dialectical materialism, it is quest for spirituality that is the basis of religions. The party cannot deny the fact that these principles are contradictory.”
